cI really have discovered something at last. Through watching so much at night, when it changes so, I have finally found out. The front pattern does move – and no wonder! The woman behind shakes it! Sometimes I think there are a great many women behind, and sometimes only one, and she crawls around fast, and her crawling shakes it all over. Then in the very ‘ bright spots she keeps still, and in the very shady spots she just takes hold of the bars and shakes them hard. And she is all the time trying to climb through. But nobody could climb through that pattern – it strangles so:…

Section Two: Quote Significance, Short Response
For this section, choose three (3) quotes from the section above and describe in detail the significance of each quote. The quotes you choose can be the same ones you chose to identify in Section One. When explaining the importance of the quote, be sure to think about how the excerpt represents the text as a whole, how it connects to the big ideas that we have discussed in classand, of course, how it relates to your ideas. (Aim for approximately 150-200words per response.)
For Alymer, his wife’s birthmark symbolizes sin and mortality and it comes to tampers with the image in his mind of Georgina’s beauty. One night Georgina reminds her husband-Alymer of a dream he had and he was saying they must take out her heart. Alymer remembers he had a dream that he had removed Georgina’s birthmark with a knife plunging until he had reached his heart, which he decided to cut out. Georgina thinks that if her birthmark gets removed she might die.(Anthony, 2017) Alymers obsession with the mark reflects how obsessed he is with mortality and how he is afraid of it. Alymer succeeds in removing the birthmark and now renders Georgina immortal because he had taken off the only immortal thing in her. In an exchange between Almer and Georgina, he seems to imply that death brings some sense of immortality in itself because if a person is already dead, then they are no longer mortal since they can not die again. The quote shows where and to what extent the theme of immortality appears.
.
This part of the story expands on the theme because it shows how his views are more favoured than hers. As a loving husband, he is supposed to cater for his wife’s needs but with the mentality that he has that men are lesser people he does only what he thinks is important. On the other hand, she sees working in the garden as more
productive rather than just sitting in the room.
Gilman expresses sexism in the setting. Jane describes the setting she is in as lonely and confined. The narrator does not want Gilman to perform certain duties. Gillian on the other hand feels like she has an overwhelming responsibility to meet society expectations (ZYN)and questions her role in society and her role as a mother and a wife as well.
The author use of flashback brings about uncertainty and ensures clarity by providing all necessary background information in the opening paragraphs.
k.These little girls had not met before, they shared some chocolate bars and took bites of an apple that they shared. The girls discussed on the train whether it was sort of a holiday or was it a punishment or both. they just did not know where they were going and the motives why they were sent on the journey, since their mothers did not know how to explain the danger to them. How could their parents tell them they were sending them away because their enemy would strike them any time? So the mothers behaved alike and explained nothing to the children.(Anthony, 2017) These children were not brownies or wolf cubs but just mongrel battalion of the lost hence the little girls had the idea that they were not good children and hence the reason they were being sent away.
Section Three: Essay Questions, Long Response

You may incorporate ideas we have discussed in class into your answers, as well as your ideas and argumentationor ideas you learned in other classes that relate. If you summarize, you will not receive credit. (These answers should be longer than the short response section, closer to 350-400 words per response.).
What is the message of the poem Leda and the Swan?In other words, offer an analysis of the poem Leda and the Swan by Yeats.
‘Leda and the swan is a sonnet that follows the greek myth whereby Zeus, having adopted the form of a swan rapes a girl(leda) and she gets pregnant who will be named Hellen of Troy. In this single act, Yeats brings it out to us about the Trojan war which marks the end of Greek civilization and the dawn of a new largely Christian age(Razzaq, 2020). Having raped Leda, Zeus made her conceive Helen of Troy with very great beauty that will bring an outbreak of the Trojan war. This is a great and memorable moment for Yeats since its kind of merging history with myth. Yeats was very much interested in these events because he believed that civilization followed a specific cycle which each epoch lasted for about two millennia. 2000 years later, the announcement of the virgin mary signalled the arrival of a new era
The second coming which is another Yeats poem brings out the idea that another changing moment might be approaching in the modern age. With the belief that annunciation-which involved gods interfering in human affairs and using their divine power to breathe a different life into human civilization. A dove was often involved in Renaissance paintings symbolizing the annunciation of a scene in which the holy spirit merges with the story of Leda Swan Joining the mortal with the Divine.
Yeat portrays a brutal view of this seismic moment a sudden blow< Yeat merges the violence of the rape with a more sinister softness: Zeus is a swan, though sometimes unpredictable bird. The Shudder in the loins’, Zeus orgasm, brings about the picture of the broken wall, the burning roof and tower/Agamemnon dead which all refers to the Trojan war. The final question in the Yeats poem depicts the knowledge of what is to come, regardless of what is done by Leda. Leda will also conceive Clytemnestra, the wife of Agamemnon> Later on Clytemnestra will kill her husband right after the Trojan war for sacrificing their child to the gods in exchange for fair winds.
Leda and the Swam remain to be an ambiguous poem because of the wealth the questions entail that Yeats sets up in just fourteen lines.
