Owens and his coach fly to Berlin to compete in a competition that will establish Owens as the best of America’s Olympians, even as German filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl clashes with her country’s propaganda Minister, Josef Goebbels, to capture the politically uncomfortable reality for profitability.
When the narrator claims that Jesse Owen was chronically unwell as a youngster, it looked as though he was destined to fulfill Hoffman’s extinction thesis until a teacher intervened. Owen authored an autobiography in which he said that his fifth-grade teacher invited him to try out for the track team not because he saw a future champion in him, but rather a potential corpse. Owens gave abandoned amateur sports in search of financial gain in other disciplines, demonstrating political undertones. He said that discriminatory rules he had experienced throughout his sports career pushed his hand, such as not being eligible for college scholarships and so trying to fit in classes between training and working to pay his way. He said in an interview that he possessed four gold medals, but that they could not be eaten. There was no television, no huge advertising, and no endorsements for Black people, at least not for the time being. This demonstrates the political prejudice he endured at the time. Owen also believes that Black people should seek power via economic methods rather than political methods. When Tommie Smith and John Carlos received their medals for the 200-meter dash at the summer games in Mexico City, Owen came out against them, claiming that the black fist is a worthless symbol. You have nothing except weak, empty fingers when you open it. Only when there is money in the Black fist does it have any meaning. Jesse Owen is recognized as the most famous athlete of his day, and his surprising victory in the 1936 Olympic games thrilled the globe while infuriating the Nazis. Jesse Owens’ elegance and athleticism united spectators all across the world, despite the racist abuses he was subjected to. When he came home, though, the four-time Olympic medalist couldn’t even ride in the front of a bus. When Frederick Hoffman documented and tracked sickness rates, he looked at the conditions that freed slaves experienced in the cities as they migrated away from the rural south and out of slavery. He discovered that African Americans had extremely high TB rates. He also discovered significant syphilis and venereal disease rates. He felt that negros would not be able to exist since their bodies were unfit and that they would perish, which did not occur. Owen died of lung cancer after a lifetime of smoking, so there are health concerns. Also relates to physical activity because Owen meets a coach who has a penchant for unconventional training methods; the coach helps him realize his true potential and achieve greatness, and he assists the coach in battling his inner demons when a sporting event is scheduled and Owen, who was previously regarded as an underdog win.
His attitude seems to have evolved in the other way as he grew older, and he spoke out in support of the civil rights movement, even criticizing his prior remarks.
